MUR 4420 Hymnology

A survey of the history of Christian hymnody from the earliest Old Testament references to the present with an emphasis on the practical use of hymns in modern worship. 3 hours credit. Offered Spring in ODD numbered years, 2003, 2005, 2007, etc. MUR 4420 is part of the core curriculum for the undergraduate degrees: Church Music and Religion and the Arts (Music Emphasis).

This is not a "hymn appreciation" class but is a FOUNDATIONAL course for the Church Music major and Religion and the Arts major. Much reading will be required.
