- Jubal was the "father of all those who play the lyre and pipe." (Genesis 4:21 NRSV). ["harp and organ" in KJV] Immediatley after Cain and Able were assigned to provide SUSTENANCE through agriculature and animal husbandry, Jubal was called upon to provide music. Jubal was the 1st "minister of music."
- Spontaneous music making was common among the Ancient Jews on all important occasions. See I Kings 1:38-40.
- Hebrew music was both instrumental and vocal.
- Singing and dancing were accompanied by instruments.
- Singing styles included RESPONSORIAL, ANTIPHONAL, and REFRAIN forms.
- Instrumental music ceased with the destruction of the Temple by the Romans in 70 CE and music was prohibited generally as a token of morning, except at marriage ceremonies where music was used to make the bride and bridegroom "happy."
