Class Attendance
Students are expected to attend all classes, be prompt,
and stay for the entire class period. If you have to miss class
for some unexpected reason, please notify the instructor by phone (460-8221)
and e-mail as soon as possible (landesdan AT aol DOT com).
There are no "cuts" allowed for this class. Any missed classes
must be accompanied by some official, written (i.e., paper) excuse
form (doctor, school nurse, administrator, etc.). Any missed class
sessions must be remedied by the following:
1. a written summary of the topic(s) covered for the session
2. written précis of all required reading material for the session
3. any required Study Questions or Listening Quizzes must be completed
The above written material should be submitted before the BEGINNING
of the next class session to receive full credit. The material should
be in HARD COPY (no e-mail enclosures) and should be submitted personally
along with the Excuse Form. The material will be evaluated as either
acceptable (A), marginally acceptable (C), or not acceptable (F).
If the submitted material is acceptable (A), the student's final grade
will not be affected by the absence. If the submitted material is marginally
acceptable (C), the student's final grade will be lowered by 2/3 of
letter grade (for example, from A to B+). If the submitted material
is not acceptable (F), the student's final grade will be lowered by
one letter grade (for example, from A to B).
For unexcused absences, the student's final grade will be lowered by
ONE letter grade (for example, from A to B) AND the student will
still be bound by the requirements listed above.
Worst case scenario: a student misses class for an unexcused reason
and either does not submit makeup work or submits work that is unacceptable
-- the student's final grade is lowered by TWO letter grades (for example
from A to C).
Excuses which are not acceptable: gigs, auditions, change of work schedule.
All excused absences but be accompanied by an official written form, for
example, a written excuse from a doctor, nurse, etc.
If you have the flu or a bad cold that may affect the health of others
in class, please DO NOT come to class. Instead, call the professor
(460-8221) and stay at home. Then, complete the makeup work described
above.
