The Electronic Encyclopedia of Hymnology: Sample Screens
Databases: HYMN TEXTS
The Database section of the EEOH is
divided into two sections: TEXT and TUNES. In the TEXTS
database, the user can search for a hymn title (1st line)
in a specific hymnal OR in all 15 hymnals. Search by 1st
line, author, meter, year, or use the KEYWORD search. The
keyword search is a FULL TEXT search of all the hymn texts.
Searching by single keywords is suggested. See the TUNES
datatbase below.

Databases: TUNES
In the TUNES database, the user can search
for a TUNE in a specific hymnal OR in all 15 hymnals.
Search by tune name, composer, Meter, or year. The style
field field does not yield much useful information. Using
the CONTOUR search turns the 2nd and 3rd rows of the computer
keyboard into a 'mini-piano keyboard' in which the user
can PLAY in a string of notes. Consequently, ALL tunes can
be searched and compared to the entered string of notes
for a match. Great way to search for a tune in which only
a phrase is known or where you know the tune but do not
know the tune name. The contour search proceeds by INTERVAL
RELATIONSHIP and not by specific notes, so any tune which
contains the interval 'contour' will be returned.
MIDI files are available for most tunes. QuickTime®
must be installed to play the MIDI files.
