Nahum Tate

Nahum Tate (1652 -1715) is important in the history of English Hymnody for his collaboration with Nicholas Brady in the compilation of the New Version of the Psalms... (1696). Several psalms from Tate and Brady's New Version are still in use today:

As Pants the hart for cooling streams (Psalm 42) -- EH 658
O come, loud anthems let us sing (Psalm 95)

A Supplement to the New Version was published in 1700 which included metrical paraphrases of various scripture passages, including Luke 2:8-14:

While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night - UMH 236

The Supplement also produced several well known tunes which are still in use today:

ST. ANNE - UMH 117
HANOVER - UMH 181
