Thomas Ken

Thomas Ken (1637 -1711) is important in the history of English Hymnody for writing the well-known DOXOLOGY:

Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
Praise God all creatures here below,
Praise Him above ye heavenly host,
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

In 1647, Thomas Ken wrote three hymns which he appended to a collection of prayers "for the use of the Scholars of Winchester College." However, only two have survived into modern usage:

Awake, my soul, and with the sun - EH 11
All praise to you (thee), my God this night -- UMH 94

All three hymns have the same final stanza: "Praise God form whom all blessings flow; praise Him all creatures here below, praise Him above y'Angelic host, praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost." Ken later changed "y'Angelic" to "heavenly."
