John Bunyan

John Bunyan (1628 -1688) is best known as the author of Pilgrim's Progress. He is important in the history of English Hymnody for a hymn derived from Part II of Pilgrim's Progress. Originally, "Who would true valor see," The hymn has gone through several versions including:

He who would valiant be
You who would valiant be (Donald Hustad calls this the "Yodling Him" -- you who)
We who would valiant be -- NCH 494
