Hymnology Bibliography

Carlton Young, Editor. Companion to the United Methodist Hymnal. Nashville: Abingdon Press, 1993.

Every modern denominational hymnal published today has a "companion" -- that is, a reference book to accompany the hymnal which contains biographical information about the authors and translators of the texts and the composers and arrangers of the tunes. The Companion to The United Methodist Hymnal (1993) certainly contains this information. But in addition, there are comprehensive articles related to the broad history of Christian hymnody with special emphasis on Methodists and United Brethren.
