Scored for piano and cello,
The Legend of the Cornhusk Doll was commissioned by
the Nashville Ballet Company for their 2001-2002 season.
The music for The Legend of the Cornhusk Doll is a
suite for piano and cello in nine movements:
Introduction
Argument Between the Two Little Girls
Busy People Working off the Land
Great Spirit I
Maiden Sees Her Reflection
Maiden Travels to the Village
Maiden Annoys the Village
Great Spirit II
Finale
The overall character of the
music is tonal with long singing lines in the cello. Two of
the movements are largely atonal, reflecting the discord of
the argument of the two little girls and then later the disruption
of the village by the Maiden.
The level of difficulty ranges from intermediate (Introduction,
Great Spirit I, Great Spirit II, Maiden Sees Her Reflection)
to difficult (Argument, Maiden Annoys the Village, and Finale).
