Kawai's class piano/group piano lab

Music Lab.

Individual keyboards are equipped with a small mixer --
student headphone boxes (KML-SGS Attachment)
-- into which are plugged the sound output of the keyboard
along with the student's headphones. The student headphone
boxes are then connected to the KML-SG via MIDI-cables which
are plugged into the back of the KML-SG. The MIDI cables
are used to send AUDIO and not regular MIDI information.
Students have control over their individual volumes by adjusting
a volume control on their individual headphone boxes.
The KML-SG master (teacher) unit is designed to
sit on the top of the teacher's piano and can accommodate
up to 16 students by itself or up to 32 students when networked
(connected) with a second master unit.
There is no computer or external computer monitor (or LCD
projector) interface. The student headphone boxes have no
auxiliary audio or microphone inputs.

The KML-SG has 5 modes of operation: Individual,
Ensemble (2, 4, 8), Instruct, All Instruct, Demo.
Individual Mode: The teacher selects and hears an
individual student but the student cannot hear the teacher.
Instruct Mode: The teacher selects and hears individual
students (or just one student) and the students CAN also
hear the teacher and each other.
Ensemble Mode: Students can be configured in groups
of 2, 4, or 8 in order to practice together (duets, or ensembles).
All Instruct Mode: The teacher selects all students
(with one button) and everyone can hear the teacher demonstrate
but individual students cannot hear each other
Demo Mode: The teacher can play external inputs
such as CD players, tape recordings, etc.

Here is what is included with a typical KML-SG
Music Lab consisting of 16 student pianos and 1
instructor piano:
1 Kawai KML-SG teacher controller
16 student interface (headphone) boxes (KML-SGS)
17 sets of headphones
17 keyboards (88 note,weighted action) keyboards (16 students,
1 teacher)
All wiring, cables, etc. specifically designed for your
class piano lab.
Kawai recommends their own digital pianos, but any standard
88 note-digital piano (keyboard) will work just fine.
General observations: Simple, relatively inexpensive,
no "bells & whistles".
